Truly Divided, but I liked it!,
This review is from: The Exorcist (Mass Market Paperback)
I was surprised to see how accurate the movie is in comparison to the book. I was disappointed that the beginning was so slow that I almost put the book down. I also feel that the ending of the book was rushed. I thought it played out much better on screen. High points are very much related to character development. I was pleased to see the individuality of the characters blending so well into the story and you just don't see that in the movie. I do have the up most respect for William Petter Blatty and the taboo areas he ventured in to. Since I am only 31 and I've just read this book you should understand that I have been desensitized to many different forms of horror through reading, movies, daily news, etc.. I feel this book was a chiller that pressed the envelope. As a mother, this book truly got under my skin from the content that was discussed and the proximity to the child involved. If I were privileged enough to be mature in the 1970's I would rate this book much higher but feel there are more exciting and better written books available now.
