Assassin's Creed III 3.5 out of 5 for me,
This review is from: Assassin's Creed III (Video Game)
First of all, I'm a HUUUUGE AC fan. I think the story and gameplay for this series is a cut above most out there. That said, Ubisoft often gets a little too ambitous for their own good with this one. I think the new engine is great, and the fight mechanics (although they take some getting used to) are very satisfying once you get really good with them. The satisfaction of mauling two guys, grabbing a third for a human shield, and then attacking the redcoat who wasted a bullet on his own guy is just delightful! But much of this improvement comes at a cost, and the glitches for this game are unacceptable. When ubisoft is using so many people, and so much money, where the heck is the QA for this annoying stuff?!?! I just feel like if it wasn't so bloated, it would be twice as good. Developers do this all the time, stop trying so hard!!! Just scale it back and make it perfect!
Advancing the free running to include both buildings and trees is pretty cool. I must say, I missed the leap button that allowed me to scale heights a little bit more quickly in ACII. Part of what makes this series fun is the inter-weaving of fiction with fact. The historical undertext of this game is enthralling and interacting with United States' icons like G.Washington, S.Adams, and B.Franklin is the best. There are really unorthodox sequences in this game, and some really unexpected moments as well. Flying as a spirit bird, fighting naval battles, parachuting in NYC, are but a few of the random moments in this game. You'll love the surprises and the fact you get to play as Desmond Miles every once in a while.
Voiceover acting is top-notch
-Improved fight system and cinematic kill scenes
-Lots to do and see
-Nice twists within story! The first is a real doozy (you'll know when you see it...trust me!)
-WAAAAY too many glitches and broken animation (I even had a freeze-up during a crucial moment)
-Lots of cutscenes
-Wooded areas like the Frontier and Homestead make it difficult to get places quickly
-Annoying AI with baddies. They seem to see you from 10 miles away and chase you relentlessly from everywhere, all the time. That said, it's quite easy to go incognito again.
