5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, yet, you may expect some difficulties, June 2, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
at first, the tilt angle switch in the controller didn't work. i had to open and repair a small production deficiency in tilt switch potentiometer. It comes programmed for a basic flight mode so that beginners can easily use it. however, once i knew how to switch to naza mode, i could use intelligent orientation control navigation and fly it way better than before.

Nothing feels better than flying this high and far. the rush of joy of feeling fully in control mixed with the constant terrifying adrinaline feel as you try not to hit anything or crash!

i crashed it 2 times already. luckily from low altitude. propellers are durable. they can endure hits and beats. the only risk is from falling from high altitude or falling in a water body (phantom, gimbal, and gopro will be lost)

it's hard to till the distance of the phantom in air, and localize it within space. thus, it's easy to hit a building you think you are far from. also, at very far distances, it's hard to till the orientation of the phantom or the gopro. an FPV looks like a necessity, though, there may be some country regulation difficulties due to the use of high-gain un-authorized frequency bands.

overall, it's amazing. strongly recommended for anyone with a gopro who can afford it. check first with your country regulation, as some countries don't allow these UAVs

Definitely get FPV for this unit or you will be sorry. I was flying it before I got the FPV rig figured out and I took it out over a pier near where I live. I shot it out to what I thought was the end of the pier with me being on the other end. When I got the footage home I realized I flew it out past the end of the pier, twice as far - out over the ocean. Then I was struggling to figure out which way the Phantom was turned to bring it back. I could have turned it my direction to head for home, or was it pointing toward Africa??? :)

Definitely unnerving and FPV really makes all the difference.

Here is a kit you can buy for it that is all in one, pretty inexpensive and has worked well for me.

Boscam 7" Monitor combo: $315

Jack says:
Be sure to get the IOSD mini as well. With it, your monitor will tell you: battery life, height, distance, speed and also the MOST important.... direction to go to return home. As well as many other things... do not fly FPV without it.
