5.0 out of 5 stars Hint for use of the Brita filter..., December 10, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Brita Water Filter Pitcher Advanced Replacement Filters, 3 Count (Kitchen)
I have been using this system for a couple of years now. Here's a tip to get rid of the little black particles...
If you make sure to keep the water level above the level of the filter at all times, the carbon particles will not get into your water! Good luck!

Also, be sure to soak the filter (Upright) in water for 15 minutes before using it for the first time and when the water is below the filter for a period of time.
By soaking the filter, the carbon expands and you won't have have the black floating particles

The black dust still get into water no mater how you soak it. If you use a white bow, you would find lots of them. No such thing happens with other brands filters.

I haven't had a problem soaking, flushing and discarding the first couple of pitchers according to the directions.
