This review is from: Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 7" Zip Sleeve, Graphite (fits the Kindle Fire HD and HDX 7") (Accessory)
This product joins a ever-growing line of modern products made in China and sold in America that give out a horrible petrochemical smell. There may be a health risk with products that smell like this. In any case, I don't want that smell on my hands or in my life.

I had a similar experience with an Android tablet case. Upon receipt, its odor was really offensive. However, after letting it air out for a few hours (outside), the chemical smell completely dissipated. Have you tried this with the Kindle Fire Zip Sleeve? And were there any issues with the sleeve's fitment around the Kindle Fire? Thanks.

I don't think you should have to air out a new product for it to be usable. I suggest buying the charcoal Incipio underGROUND felt sleeve instead. Not sure if it's available on Amazon, but I bought it on Incipio's website for $20 shipped. It has no offensive odors and the inside is lined with suede.

After letting the case air out for 24 hours, the odor has not dissipated. I didn't think it would dissipate, based on my experience with other products that had the same petrochemical odor. I agree with Dustin that we shouldn't have to air things out to make them usable. If Americans would stop buying things that smell like this, the Chinese manufacturers and American distributors would get the message.
Apart from the odor, it appears to be a fine case. I like how it looks. I like having a zipper, rather than velcro or magnets. The interior is brightly colored and has a waffle surface to cushion the tablet.
You might ask, if I like the case in all respects but one, then why not give it a higher rating? To me that would be like asking, "Apart from that, Mrs Lincoln, how did you like the play?"
