Shadow of Colossus makes it worth it,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The ICO and Shadow of the Colossus Collection (Video Game)
Ever since I was a little kid I always saw the SoC game and wanted to play it really badly, although it always was too expensive. It was amazing to get that nostalgic experience that I never got to have. Ico was a nice add on to what I wanted, but gets frustrating sometimes.
-ICO- Ico is a pretty bare game when it comes to the complexity of the gameplay which does this game well. You only need to press 3 or 4 different buttons when you are playing and of course the analog stick. Ico was the "hipster" of modern day indie games being one of the more minimalist experiences. With just a beat the crud out of the shadow enemies in the game. Although, the worst part of the game is that Yorda is way to defense-less. She has an awful AI that you would certainly hope for in modern day games. For it's original time it was not as much as a problem, but you'll be cursing at your screen as she runs around the ladder instead of going up to and climbing it.
-Shadow of Colossus- This was the most amazing gameplay experience in it's day. With some minor controls that are odd, but will take you 10 minutes to master. Climbing up the beasts is an easy task, finding and slicing at their weak spots is the best feeling I've felt in a game in a long time. I really don't have much to say about it because it is beautifully done when it comes to gameplay. Gameplay on SoC alone makes this game easily worth $30 (Let alone $20)
-Ico/SoC- Whenever I get an HD remake of a game (Like God of War) I check the old one to see if it really is a remaster or just a re-release for money. This is definitely a remaster. There seemed to be a great amount of time thrown into it in order for it to look good. This INCLUDES the cut scenes! Ico was not as well done on the remaster, but that is understandable since the original game was older and did not look close to as good as Shadow of Colossus. On the storyline, I will not say much, but the stories are not what you expect from a PS2 game and sparked video games becoming similar to modern novels, the first to make you feel into a game since FF7.
-Ico- Ico would be a great modern PSN game, and would probably be sold for 15 dollars since the game is 5-7 hours long (There is a trophy for beating it within 2 hours if you play it enough). The game would be a good competitor to Limbo or even Journey. Even though the graphics are not as good as the modern day PSN games, they are great. The best part of the game is the story.
Ico's overall: 8/10
-Shadow of Colossus- This is the game I really wanted to play and I am glad that I was able to! There is just this great feeling you receive when you take one of them down, and then you feel bad as you have 15 more to go. The game can be upwards to 12 hours long and it is definitely worth every second. You can even pin this game against the top modern day games. This makes me look forward to the Last Guardian.
Shadow of Colossus: 9.5/10
I know that looks more like a 4 star game, but throw in the price ($20) and it is a MUST HAVE for any Playstation fan.
