In which chapter does she talk about her own dog being trained by a professional? Or getting her dog from a breeder, despite telling others to adopt from shelters?

I think the experience from getting her dog is what got her interested in learning the right way to do things and rescues.

Yes. She and Howard now have two cats, Walter and Apple, both of whom were adopted from a rescue, the latter having several health problems when he was adopted.
