This review is from: Sarah's Key (Paperback)
the longer I read (or actually listened on cd discs), the lower the ratings! What started initially as a "four star" very good and well written narrative about Sarah's horrendous nightmare, deteriorated into a "Lifetime television" melodrama, with an extraordinarily self-centered Julia, who insists on imposing her own issues on all the other characters. Her husband, Bernard, is a weak, equally self-centered individual; no empathy or any feeling for either one of them. They are whiny egocentric characters who absolutely detract from the emotionally wrenching persona of Sarah. How the author slipped into this discord is beyond me. The somewhat pathologic ending seems right out of a badly made movie for cable television. So much could have been done with this story line - maybe she should have focused entirely on Sarah? This was such a waste!
