DO NOT BUY THIS GRILL!,
This review is from: Char-Broil TRU 4-Burner TRU Infrared Gas Grill (Lawn & Patio)
While this review is correct in stating the evenness of cooking achieved by using this grill, I caution you NOT to buy it due to the cheap materials. I have had mine 1 Year and have already had to replace the cooking grates three times. They just continue to rust. I clean it after each use, leave it uncovered during periods of good weather (as the Charbroil folks have suggested to help mitigate the issue of humidity), use the cleaning brush that is supposedly designed specifically for this grill, but nothing works. This is an extremely high maintenance grill - and I'm someone who takes care of his things. I do not expect to neglect the grill. I recognize there is some basic maintenance work required to keep equipment in tip-top shape. However, the maintenance needs of this grill far exceed that. If you're like me and want to be able to enjoy your grill while performing basic routine maintenance, this grill is not for you. Its needs far exceed routine. Also, the grates are only guaranteed for one year - shame on me, I missed that fact when I bought it. But what does that tell you? Charbroil's expectation of the life span of the most important part of the grill is only one year? I had a Weber with a grate guarantee of 10 years. It's back to Weber for me after making this one very bad mistake. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT BUY THIS GRILL!.

I Agree With Tony..Its A High maintenance Grill..My Grates And "Stainless Steel Components" In The Fire Box Are Rusting Out
After 2 Months Use!!!! I Bought Mine At Lowe's For $356 Less 10% For Floor Model!! The Only Reason I Bought This Unit Is Lowe's Gave Me A FULL Credit On The Commercial Series 4 Burner That Lasted Almost 2 Years Before The Fire Box Componets Burned Out Or Rusted Out!! I Did Buy The 3 Year Replacement Warranty From Lowe's Because I Know What Will Happen Less Than 2 Years Down The Road!!..I Will NEVER Again Do Business With Char-Broil! As Long As This "Crap" Is Made In China It Will NEVER Measure Up!

I think you need to season the grates and treat them like cast iron - as you do any bare metal used for cooking, especially outdoors. Outdoor cooking appliances require a certain amount of care and attention. It things are rusting out - that means moisture and build-up from your cooks is remaining and causing the metal to degrade. Seems to me you have an ax to grind and just want to be angry.

I found that this grill is GREAT. It does require a certain amount of maintenance. I use my grill at least once a week. Every other month, I will take the grills and grates out and clean them with a wire brush and soapy water. I also clean out the fire box. Then, before I put everything back together, I wipe them down with vegetable oil. This keeps them from rusting. The exterior of the grill gets a good cleaning about every 6 months. I wash it down with water and soap used for washing cars. Then I apply car wax to the exterior. Makes for a NICE shine.

I've owned this grill for about a year and have never had any problems with rust.
But if you are having problems with the grates rusting, why not just keep them inside when you're not using them?

Fully concur on this point, I seasoned twice before using the grill. The grates are the only part of my 5 year old Charbroil Red I have not had to replace.
