Mini Astro A50s,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Skullcandy PLYR1 7.1 Surround Sound Wireless Gaming Headset, Black (SMPYFY-003) (Video Game)
Update 12/12/15: Mine are still going strong almost two years into daily use. I own the black ones, and seeing all the photos of broken white headsets, I would only recommend the BLACK ones. As others have said, big ears might not fit well with these, your ears need to fit inside the earcup (the dumbo part of your ear will fit between the earpad cushion and the driver covering) to be truly comfortable. Same with large heads in the horizontal direction. My head isn't small, but probably longer than it is wide, and I use them on one of the medium size headband settings. Again, but black, not white, they're not even totally white anyway.
I have the Astro A50 Battlefield Edition, Astro wireless 5.8 mixamp A40s BRG red version, the Asus Vulcan ANCs, had the turtle beach ear force tango headset, and quite a few other headsets as well. I use them for PS4, PC, 360, and PS3 mainly. For the price (130 USD), these are the best sound and convenience for value I have ever had.
I agree with other reviewers that the earcups are small. The back of your ear might sit in between the fabric cup (soft and comfy) and the actual speaker. If you have Dumbo ears, this might not work for you. However, normal ears can manage very comfortably. The headset is light, but I still prefer the A40/50 earcups for their size and comfort to these. However, I do wear these for hours listening to Rhapsody while at work and they do not bother me at all (even with my glasses) and I tend to forget I even have them on.
The Dolby sound is similar to all simulated 7.1 Dolby. They are headphones with two speakers, so any positional audio is mainly in your imagination. Highly adjustable for head size, and the flip-down mic is nice, but I would be careful not to over-rotate it or to be too casual when raising and lowering it. There is a positive click as you pass the mute switch when rotating the mic, do not rotate it much farther rearwards after that click, it is already vertical anyway.
Stand is nice, connections are simple, charging works well. The joystick is hard to get used to, but grows on you. When going forward and back (picture East to West on a compass) with the stick, it is the chat/game volume balance. There is an audible beep in the center position and audible beeps at each extreme. Then up and down (north and south) is main volume. These do not lack for loudness at all, and if you like bass, flip the rear switch on the right ear cup to the top position, and it will give you decent boom. IMO, the middle and lower position are for movies/tv and games, respectively.
I like the matte black appearance, no fingerprint magnet surfaces except on portions of the base that you either don't touch or don't see. Overall, nothing bad to say other then when will other wireless audio headsets other than TB pair bluetooth so we can use the TB XBA adapter with a headset like this and be totally wireless on 360? If this headset had bluetooth pairing capability, it would be almost perfect for everything, even cell calls.
