4.0 out of 5 stars Works, but does not improve iPad USB charging very much., April 19, 2011

This review is from: OEM PCD Universal Y Adapter USB Data Cable with Two Male and One Female Connector (Electronics)
Many people have learned that the iPad requires too much juice to charge effectively from a USB cable. That is an annoyance for many. While the iPad will say "Not Charging," the truth is it is drawing some juice, which is better than having no power supply.

Like others, I thought this dual USB cable would double the juice and charge the iPad effectively. No dice. It does speed it up a little, soit may be worth it for those of you who really need to charge while you sync, but it does not get nearly enough charge to get to 100% in a reasonable time frame.

Still, that is not the cable's fault, and it works as advertised for a cheap price. It is better than a single cable, so I recommend it if you just want to get slightly better charging from a USB.

Best results would be to pair this product with Apple 10-Watt USB Power Adapter for iPad (A1357) and 15 Foot USB 2.0 Extension Cable into the power port. This would allow full current to pass through to the iPad while simultaneously allowing data to flow between the iPad and computer (though limiting laptop users' mobility.)

Explanation: You won't get full iPad charging speed off just a computer's ports. USB standard puts out 500mA per port; combine two for 1000mA. The iPad charger puts out 2000mA. Therefore, feed a high-amperage charger into the power port for full charging speed. Supposedly, some 3rd party iPad chargers above 2000mA actually charge *faster* than the Apple charger. Consequently, using this cable with the iPad charger at 2000mA and a computer port at 500mA might decrease your charge time overall.
