New, improved review:
The unit failed one day after five months. It woke up one morning with a constantly blinking green light. The manual does not describe what to do in such a case. I called technical support. I could tell from my call that the tech person knew full well what a constantly blinking light meant -- total failure. He nonetheless gave me instructions to reset the machine but it refuses to format; it seems the unit has failed completely. And, I can't get a reasonable return call from technical support.
This little drive (actually, isn't so little; larger than typical external hard drives) works rather well. I was carrying around my old hard drive from computer to computer and a client observed me doing that, and wanted to know if his data was on it. After learning that it was and seeing him frown, I immediately ordered this gem from Amazon and it works.
It comes with a Y-link so that you can hook up to two USB power sources but I don't really need it. Since I have the Y link, I just keep it out and hooked up at home but don't need to take it with me.
But, beware, if you let your PC sleep on you while data is open (like an open Word document), you'll lose the data, at least the new and open data. For some reason the drive can't be keypadded back on after the PC sleeps.
