5.0 out of 5 stars Exceeded expectations!, June 11, 2011

This review is from: Rokinon 35mm f/1.4 Lens for Sony Cameras (Electronics)
Just received this lens and, thus far, I'm very impressed. As used on my Sony a900, I find it plenty sharp wide open and, unlike the Rokinon 85 1.4 lens I once owned, just as sharp for distant subject matter as it is for closer subject matter. In fact, once stopped down to 5.6 to 8, this lens is as useful for landscapes as it is for portraits. I also find the color and contrast to be much superior to the Rokinon 85 1.4 which I thought tended to render contrast a little too soft with very muted color.

While I don't find it heavy for such a fast moderate wide angle, be aware that it is physically a very large lens. It almost looks like a fast zoom lens when mounted! Nitpicking, there is a little barrel distortion and quite a bit of vignetting. Chromatic aberrations are very well corrected (sometimes a tiny bit may be noticeable wide open) and the bokeh is generally gorgeous. Build quality seems a step up from the Rokinon 85 1.4. Focus ring is smoother to operate as well as the aperture. I do wish they had gone with a more substantial mount made out of chrome or stainless instead of what appears to be aluminum or some other softer metal. Overall though, it's really hard to complain for what this lens offers given it's price. I have no doubt that it will match or even outperform lenses three to four times it's price. Highly recommended!

I just bought this lens, every time I turn the lens up or down, I heard a "noise" and "movement" in the lens as if something is loose inside the lens. The focus ring is very smooth though, so I'm not sure what's causing this. I wonder is your lens having the same issue?

I don't hear any noise with mine when I turn the lens upside down or shake it.

The mount is made of aluminum because a harder material could cause wear or even damage to the mount on your camera body.
