Best HD Re-release I Have Played,
This review is from: Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix (Video Game)
I'll start by saying that my primary reason for writing this review is to counteract the unjustified low reviews misinformed individuals are giving this great collection. Reviews for the games themselves have been written for years. This is a review of this HD release.
Kingdom Hearts Final Mix is available for the first time in North America. I am about 3/4 of the way through the game and have noticed some new content. As for the presentation, it is excellent. The game looks gorgeous. In some scenes, it looks better than games released in HD originally. Also, the camera is now controlled with the right stick and the reaction commands (triangle button) originally introduced in KHII have been implemented, which is a huge improvement.
Chain of Memories has never been my favorite entry in the series. I was never a huge fan of the card battle system and, admittedly, I never finished the Gameboy version. However, the game looks good in HD and still plays well. I look forward to giving it another try.
As for the cutscenes from 358/2 Days that people are complaining about, they are excellent as well. Honestly, this was the best route for Square Enix to take in my opinion. Remaking the DS game from scratch would have taken a lot of time and resources away from other projects. Also, the series is character and story driven. People NEED the story and character interactions of 358/2 Days, but the gameplay is unnecessary. Once again, it looks beautiful in HD.
In short, while Kingdom Hearts is beginning to show its age it still holds up well, especially with the new tweaks it received. Chain of Memories and 358/2 Days both look fantastic. It is definitely worth the price of admission.
