GRITTY IRISH CRIME DRAMA, STICKS TO STEREOTYPES,
This review is from: JACK TAYLOR, SET 1 (DVD)
This is a good enjoyable crime show. The stories are interesting and the acting, especially Iain Glen in the lead is great. I certainly recommend it.
The only part that was disappointing to me is that the lead character does not develop at all thru the 5 episodes; same struggle with his drinking demon, no meaningful relationships etc. He is good looking and has a likeable personality, but the viewers don't really get to know anything about him or his past.
I also would have liked to see other Irish cultural elements besides the standard stereotypes of hard drinking men and sex crimes of the Catholic priests.

I have to say I think this reviewer didn't watch the third episode, in which a great deal is revealed that explains much about Jack and his problems with drink and life in general. Glen's acting is so superb in portraying a damaged but essentially very good man.
