Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mitsubishi Diamond Series WD-82838 82-Inch 3D DLP HDTV (Electronics)
A great TV at a great price. We paid $2399.00, from Paul's TV. We ordered the #82838 and was upgraded to the #82840 at no extra charge (I think the #38 was out of stock/ discontinued). We ordered it just before Christmas and it arrived about 7 days later, which we thought was impressive, given the holiday - California(?) to Ohio in a week! It was an easy set up and its light weight too. My wife and I easily, albeit nervously..., lifted it onto the TV "stand". We bought (2) blk/ brwn Besta Jarga($99 ea.)TV stands from Ikea to put the TV on - both side by side w/o the included castors. This unit works well and was recommended by a TV owner on another Amazon review. While it is not glossy, we think the color is a-okay, and we're generally picky types... I like it better(looks & feature wise) than the Tech Craft stand that Mitsubishi is pushing, plus the price is good. I'm sure there is something nicer out there if you look...FYI, the Mit TV built in/on 'stand' is for stabilizing only.
We have not done any sort of fancy or complicated set up or calibration yet. I'll update, when we do. Out of the box, the picture is good, but I think I can tweek the color some and there is a sound callibration that is recommended...There is an microphone, included, that is used for this purpose. I haven't read about, or used it yet - will update. The 16 built-in speakers sound good, although we'll probably end up hooking up our surround sound some day. Our sub woofer is currently hooked up directly to the TV, so this helps it sound better. I don't see how "Immersive Sound" will ever replace rear speakers...
So far my only complaint would be the lack of internet apps - NO NETFLIX. This is beyond ridiculous, but it is what it is, so the wireless USB adapter we bought was a total waste of money - that stinks. Maybe it will get used for a firmware update some day? My advice, save your money, unless you like Vudu for some reason...At present, we use our PS3 for Netflix but we're buying the Roku 2 XD. It's ashame and "BS" that our brand new, expensive high tech TV is so lacking in the apps, but at this point, whats another $80.00... Another complaint would be that the Mitsubishi remote is not backlit - silly, very silly...The remote's buttons & features are laid out well though. Oh, btw, the ipod remote app is cool, but redundant and unneccessary. We have this app on an ipad... "Cute" would be a better description for the iod app (IMO) but I'm one of those folks who's yet to comprehend the ipod/ipad app fascination that sooo many people seem to have......
So far, it seems like our Kinnect camera works fine on top of the TV(height wise).
Beyond that, this is one heck of a TV and a bargain! We bought a 5 yr. warranty through Paul's TV for $249 and it included a nice surge protector. It's better than what we had on our old 72" Mit and I thought they said this surge protector retailed for 70 bucks. Anyway, we have peace of mind for 5 years. Our old Mitsubishi, a 1999 model(?)we bought (used) 10 years ago, still works fine - but it's a dinosaur compared to the new HD 82"!!! No comparison.
It has only been a couple of weeks but so far, we are very happy with our purchase. I will update this review, as needed.
