A revealing commentary on society's addiction to sports,
This review is from: Personal Foul: A First-Person Account of the Scandal That Rocked the NBA (Paperback)
As someone who is not a sports fan, and who thinks we spend too much time admiring and then tearing down our so-called sports heroes, I found Donaghy's story a revealing commentary on this country's preoccupation with sports. Anyone with common sense knows that gambling is an inherent part of sports and economics. Otherwise, why would any newspaper run the point spreads? Why would point spreads be a topic of televised sports "news?"
Tim Donaghy's book is more than his personal mea culpa. It is a sad story of a man's descent into a gambling addiction that is rampant in society - from high school and college campuses, to Wall Street, to Main Street.
