This review is from: Gungnir - Sony PSP (Video Game)after so many failures of tacticals this stand along with 1 other tactical that i can say i enjoy playing. FF Tactics was truly disappointing for DS and i dared not play the psp version. Jeanne d' Arc was fairly hard to get into and didn't have balanced or engaging combat. about the only other tactical rpg of any value is the Luminous Arc series but since they are cheesy and all the same game it's hard to say they are quality. this game presents a quality game as one would expect from st!ng as seen in knights in the nightmare and other games by the developer. it has many similarities and falls into the storyline as the 9th game if i recall correctly so those familiar with the weapons from knights in the nightmare will find many similarities but this game hails to the tactical genre in a more complete fashion but keeps it from being to difficult like some jrpgs. Lucifer's Call comes to mind though many will know it as Nocturne.
i don't want to give any spoilers so i will not talk to much about the story but i will say the combat stays balanced and the art stays relatively out of the 3d which is nice as st!ng had amazing artwork for their other games. the game play is quick like luminous arc so you won't spend the battle doing 15 damage like in FF tactics A2 or luminous arc 1 till you start getting better characters. the ability to choose allies and not rely on the story of the game to give them to you makes the game seem more like a game and less like a story as square enix has yet to learn i find annoying as do many other fans of the jrpg genre or other games similar to theirs. the game will allow for some decisions that will sway the plot slightly and you can be a total jerk like in an SMT game however the game isn't as harsh but it's not as annoying as TWEWY. so it holds a nice level of freedom while still maintaining the story. i have yet to see if it has knights in the nightmare's you actually have to win a battle to win the game model or if you can always retry things to get all the non required stuff. all in all it's not a fairly balanced and fun game that only really lacks in that it's not as unique as knights in the nightmare or as dark as an smt game.
