Good General Overview for New Parents,
This review is from: Heading Home With Your Newborn: From Birth to Reality, 2nd Edition (Paperback)
As a first time parent-to-be with almost no infant experience, I really appreciated this book. It was easy to read, unbiased (didn't try to shove a particular parenting style down my throat), and gave a good overview of a wide variety of topics having to do with infants and their care. I finished the book with the general message that everything was going to be OK, which I think it's important to have for a first time parent.
That said, I don't really picture myself returning to this book over and over again once my baby is born. It just doesn't go into enough detail on any particular topic that I would pick it up over another book if, say, I can't get my infant to stop screaming in the middle of the night. There are a lot of longer, less readable but more in depth books that I will probably end up turning to for that sort of thing. Also, it's really only geared toward newborns up to four months old, so it's usefulness is fairly limited in that respect as well.
Overall, definitely a good pre-birth read for first time parents to give you a little insight into what to expect when you bring your baby home!
