This review is from: Cautionary Tales (Kindle Single) (Kindle Edition)
Let me first be clear: Mr. Tobolowsky's name didn't register with me when I first found this single. I had never heard his podcast, I couldn't really place him in his film and screen career (based solely on his name) and the blurb didn't ring any bells. The book just seemed like it might be a fun (and funny) read. And really, it was. However, I have to caution other customers with my own tale: I found that at the end of 25 pages or a bit less, the "book" was finished. I flipped back a few pages, sure my Kindle had somehow frozen and was simply failing to move on to the next page. I pressed the forward page button repeatedly in quick succession. Bam! Brick wall. About a sentence and a half on the last page, then a period. Then nothing. Blank white space.

Did I enjoy what there was of this work? Yes. Do I wish there was more? Most indubitably. Am I satisfied with the overall value? Well... You see, when I purchase a Kindle Single, I know it isn't going to be long. I know that it is a shorter work for a smaller price (or a mid-length work by an unknown author). This, however, was a bit galling. The purchase price of $1.99 for a 25 page nibble just seems to be a bit inflated. I felt a little cheated.

On the other hand, maybe that was the absolute last of the titular Cautionary Tales. Bravo, Mr. Tobolowsky. You certainly have taught me something. :S

Hi, I read your comments with interest. As Stephen's wife, I thought I might mention a couple of things. Stephen's Kindle Single was one of the first released, and he was advised to make it along the lines of a "short story," thus the length at the time. I think if he were to do another, he'd definitely make it longer.

Secondly, I am so glad you liked the story. Perhaps if you don't know already, you might check out The Tobolowsky Files, available on iTunes or at http://www.slashfilm.com/category/features/slashfilmcast/the-tobolowsky-files - there are 56 episodes (close to 56 hours) available for a listen - all for free! That might take some of the ouch out of the brevity for $1.99? - Ann
