5.0 out of 5 stars best ip camera EVER! =), January 7, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Foscam Pan And Tilt Wireless IP Camera with 9bdi antennas 2 pack FI8918W (Camera)
HANDS DOWN,the easiest Ip camera to instal {granted a firm working knowledge of routing protocalls and port forwarding helps to}
this is the GOOD foscam {the one that you can actually disable the night vision ,so it CAN be mounted behind glass or inside of a dome enclosure-with no I.R. reflection}
i use this model foscam for mounting inside of OUTDOOR DOME ENCLOSURES,on the sides of buildings and on poles ect....., and i must say that these really hold up well. i have installed over 400 of this model over the past year, and its my most requested model!
these work best using Internet Explorer {active x controls},but can be used with firefox and chrome {havent tried with safari,but im sure it can be done=)
the camera movement is smooth and silent,and the video stream is pretty clean {at 640x480VGA i get a soid 15fsp on a physical LAN cable plugged in, and 11-13fps on wifi.}
With the INCLUDE 9db Antenna with each camera,i get between 280-300ft of range on the wifi,and still got 11-13fps, not to shabby=)
the AUDIO OUTPUT on the back of the camera is great for adding a ip base P.A. system too.
All in all, a great camera, at a more than fair price ,concidering the included 9db antennas.
ps.
if your installing more than 9 of these one network, Get a copy of Blue Iris software to control them ,instead of the built in software {blue iris alows you to network up to 64 of this model to view at the same time}

I just got a pair of these with the 9dbi antennae, and I've successfully configured for access via wifi on both my home LAN & outside WAN. The quality of the image is decent, but I'm getting pretty lousy performance over wifi from the camera to my wireless netbook. The image periodically drops out in the browser window (Firefox) and I have to manually refresh the video. This is still accessing the camera from inside my LAN, not from the outside internet, so with my 802.11n router, I'd think I could get decent results, as my netbook is also on "n", while the camera is on "g". Any suggestions? I've seen some people recommend putting the camera somehow on one side of the router, while everything else is on the other side, but I don't know of a way to do that with my router, unless I have to manually configure all of my devices to have a static IP address in the router & use traffic control in the router to split things up.

What outside dome enclosure would you recommend for this unit? Thanks.

the problem is with the wifi range of your net book, not the cameras or your router. your netbook {probably intel atom based} isnt exactly the best for streaming multiple channels of live video stream.
the best thing you can do is get a USB WIFI ADAPTER {the netgear ones are nice ,and pretty cheap}
the foscams have great range to your router,and your router has great range to the cameras, but your netbooks wifi just cant "talk" to the router ,without significant packet loss {why the frame rate is so low}
just about ANY usb WIFI adapter will be better than the onboard wifi of your netbook.

7" Outdoor Dome Encloser for Loftek Foscam Wansview Apexis Cctv Surveillance Security Wireless Ip Camera
works perfect with this camera {just remember to turn off the ir lights,and put the camera in "outdoor mode", not 50hz or 60hz
