Fuss free and fantastic!,
This review is from: Simply Sensational Cookies (Hardcover)
I guess that I must be one of those home bakers for whom "Simple" means fuss free. I confess right here that I am no foodie fashionista, just a grandma and cookie aficionado who looks for tasty and easy recipes. One of the things that I really appreciate about Ms. Baggett's cookbooks (especially this one, since cookies are my personal comfort fix) is that they offer easy to follow instructions with the options of complex flavors. She has gently led me into delicious new taste territory. As an admittedly somewhat slapdash baker, I have also found that, with her recipes, even when I am a little off on my measures, the results are still great. So those of you who are into precision baking should still get cookies that are even more toothsome than mine. I know that my resident food critics munch with delight. I would say that the pictures that the author has chosen to include are well-chosen, especially the cookies decorated with natural colors and flavors. I've also watched some of Ms. Baggett's videos on Youtube where she shows some of her tips and methods. I know it's all in the book, but her videos serve to illustrate what this book is about- ways to make cookies that are simple, tasty, but not your typical standard fare and ways to decorate with ingredients that don't come out of a chemistry lab. That's why I'm considering a few extra copies to give for the holidays. I have the feeling that this is going to be one of those cookbooks that is going to be heavily smudged with the imprints of several generations of fingers.
