Ten Stars For This One!,
This review is from: Shoot The Money (Kindle Edition)
Remember how you felt the first time you saw THELMA AND LOUISE? Kind of like you'd just discovered a new kind of story that should have existed from time immemorial? Reading SHOOT THE MONEY's like that. It's not every day you see something so completely original it makes you sit up and sniff the air, but SHOOT THE MONEY is that kind of find--a completely unclassifiable romp of a rare and precious sort. A sort that shouldn't be so rare, to tell you the truth--a tale of two women on their own, out in the world and having adventures. A book about women that doesn't turn on whether they get the guy or the job or the self-esteem--the two in this book have enough guys, jobs, and self-esteem for any ten others you'll find in fiction.
What they're doing is going through life, with all the complications brought on by Hurricane Katrina, in a thoroughly contemporary, not entirely cautious, and sometimes slightly criminal way. Karen has friends--and enemies--in low places, plus a bag of money she got in a not entirely cautious, slightly criminal way. Needless to say, keeping it's part of the adventure.
Raynie, her polar opposite, is a small-town babe with big ambitions--first involving ways to avoid life on a frog farm, then moving right on up to...well, read the book to find out.
These ladies are real, they're fresh, and they're flat-out funny as hell. A great read!
