5.0 out of 5 stars Phenomenon...indeed, September 18, 2003
This review is from: Phenomenon (Audio CD)
1977. Rainbow Music Hall in Denver.
Maybe 2500 people at the show. I was in the Air Force stationed at Lowery and I dragged a friend of mine to the show.
I had read about the album in Rolling Stone (back when it was actually relevant kids) and they raved about it, so I bought that vinyl.
The band came out at about 9:30pm and played for two hours.
Then came FOUR encores ending with the classic "Rock Bottom"
I can still close my eyes and hear the thundering ending of that song.
My friend talked about it for a week.
They tore it up.
It was the loudest concert I've ever been to, and I've seen them all.
A thousand concerts, and I have yet to see it's equal.
UFO.
What a great name for a band.

fall of 1974, concert at golden hall, san diego's old convention center. sunday night. 6:45 start. on the card: UFO, T. REX, BLUE OYSTER CULT. doors open when we get there at 6:15. about 7:05 i start booing at the delay. the delay is getting a negative crowd response, sorta ugly. 7:20, mc comes out to a lot of boos and bitching, turns up his mike and tells us that marc bolan from t-rex has gotten sick and has to cancel. more shouting. he says that ufo will play an extra 30 mins., no body cared. then he says that blue oyster cult promises to play an extra hour. yay yay huzzah bitchin far out man, all seem happy. lets party. it did at 7:30. we didn't let ufo off that stage until around 9:20. they were so frikkin good, that we encored them 3 times. they were supposed to play an hour! we wanted more. on the third they played us (from an upcoming album in the works) too hot to handle! the place flipped out. we called for more, and lost the battle. people were a buzz about going to tower records now! nope. here comes BOC! fastest stage switch i have ever witnessed. BOC hits the stage, apologizes for the delay, and eric bloom said: howdya like those last fellows that played. WE ERUPTED! TOOK TWO MINS. TO QUIET US! the band was all smiles while we roared. eric bloom says: they are hot! so i guess we will just be as hot or hotter! they didn't get upstaged, because buck dharma did a special long version of "bucks boogie" that ended up stealing the whole show. we walked out at 11:50, edified by by marc bolans addiction (thats why he was sick, we found out later) to smack. him getting sick delivered the best concert experience of my life! i ditched school the next day, went to the wherehouse, to join the phenomenon that became UFO! 9:30 AM AND I HAD ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITE RECORDS, AND NOW IT'S CD TIME! i am in agreement with mr. meehan 100% i now go and recapture some of my youth by clicking a mouse, easy is as easy does. for me
