Turmoil in the simple life,
This review is from: Sisters of the Quilt: The Complete Trilogy (Paperback)
After about 5 nights of staying up until 1:00 a.m. to read this book, I sadly finished it last night. I say "sadly" because this book kept my interest until the very last page and I didn't want it to ever end. It is a triology, When the Heart Cries, When the Morning Comes, and When the Soul Mends, about the life of a seventeen-year-old, Old Order Amish girl, Hannah, who is raped and then has to deal with rumors, disbelief, and contempt from her family, church leaders and community. Hannah had been secetly engaged to a Plain man, Paul, but that relationship was severed by the rape. Eventually Hannah disappears and rebuilds her life in the Englischer world until she has to return to her old community to help her sister and, with new knowledge, she is forced to decide if she wants to remain in her Englischer life, or return to the Plain life she left more than 2 years ago.
This book contains 1,000 pages of text and I was engrossed in every single one of them. If one has any interest in the Amish life and would like to better understand some of the struggles that believers of this type of an austere life have to endure, this is the book to read. Very interesting story and fascinating characters.
