My son played with this at his cousins house and seemed to really like it. His aunt highly recommended it as her girls loved it. So we bought it and my 3 year old and 5 year old use it a lot. I'd say 3 years is about the age for this toy. I find it above average in the educational department as well, it really is very good at teaching him how to write his letters. There are quite a few different play modes, but we have only used one. It's very well constructed and should last a long time.

How is this toy now working out for you kids?? I've heard people's reviews about the leapfrog one... and a lot of them complained about it telling your kid they are doing a great job at drawing the letters when they are scribbling... or when they are trying to trace the letter it disappears...

I was using this one at the store and I traced the letter badly and it told me to try again. I then had my 3 year old trace and it passed. So it is child appropriate in the since that a child's letter works if it resembles the letter at all. I liked the way it worked. I am going to purchase one for her for Christmas.

It's working out well. It's well constructed and is surviving trips in the vans and trips to grandmas house. It probably tends to be a little lenient on the criticism, but I think it's still helpful. I haven't seen any issues with the letters disappearing. Still happy with the purchase, and more importantly the kids are still using it!
