W.Lovelace, you are dead on correct, and because of what you posted I decided to purchase the Netgear WN2000RPT Universal WiFi Range Extender - Refurbished unit and glad I did. Everything you said is correct. I paid $22.99 for it on Amazon, ordered it before 3pm pst, and got it the next day! Fanastic Amazon!.
Bestbuy was selling this unit for $35-45.00 new. I have it DOWNSTAIRS in the family room, which is about 48ft away from the COMCAST WiFi ARRIS XFINITY CABLE ROUTER which is UPSTAIRS in the master bedroom. The placement of the Netgear extender IS NOT "line of sight". And it still puts out 5 bars instead of 1-2 bars on my samsung galaxy mega phone as it did prior to getting this refurbished unit. We always had trouble streaming movie from a USB flash drive adapter connected to the phone and streamed to the big screen HDTV. BUT now, there is no "buffering" or slow down because of the Netgear Extender. And like you said W.Lovelace, this Netgear WN2000RPT Universal WiFi Range Extender - Refurbished "IS better than a new one", because it has been double checked by the NetGear people the second time around.
Thanks for your very insightful post .
