5.0 out of 5 stars Understanding Obama, March 12, 2009
By
This review is from: Rules for Radicals: A Practical Primer for Realistic Radicals (Paperback)
Having grown up in the sixties, remembering and participating in school sit-ins I was eager to reacquaint my self with a long lost name from the past. Saul D. Alinsky has been in the news again over the past year because of the campaign of Barak Obama the Chicago community organizer, turned politician.

This book, "Rules for Radicals" is must reading for anyone who desires insight into what is ahead for this country. There are several sections of the book, which after you read them, you think isn't that just what happened, or oh that's why he did this. The book is a collection of ideas, situations and anecdotes spun into an easygoing yarn of the life of a community organizer. An organizer helps the have-nots get what the haves have, and then he goes and helps the have-not's get what the haves have and then ... well you get the idea.

A must read for the curious and politically inclined.

PMS Shamus and all the sit-in people of the 60's, must be a non productive group of people. It is only the non productive that want to steal the posessions of a hard working entrapeneur who worked his way up and succeeded in life. If those radicals gave people the tools to earn their own fortune, I would not care. (Give a man to fish, he eats for a day. Teach him how to fish, he eats for a lifetime.) But you want to re distribute it and think it's OK. It is NOT OK. If you want to pursue wealth, pursue it! But don't expect government to give you handouts. If you want to do Social Work, don't expect to be wealthy, but don't take someone elses wealth, because they chose a profession that paid more. SHAME ON ALL OF YOU SOCIALISTS. One day, there will be no wealthy person left to steal from Why would anyone want to create wealth, if the government will take it away. Without free enterprise and wealth producing jobs, there will be no more foundations, no more charity money and we won't be able to help anyone. Since I have never gotton a job from a poor person, I don't even know where the jobs will come from. So continue to hate the rich, make them poor, take it all away from them. It will be AMERICA that will lose and so will you.

Real Person says:
P. Brandt, your statement has no basis in reality in this country. This country's history is full of examples of people who started with next to nothing and then worked hard to be successful people. Your last statement is typical of so many on the left: "I am a have-not but I don't feel like working so therefore I am entitled to a nanny state to help me out". Pathetic.

Real Person says:
P. Brandt should talk to some people who lived through communism. The have-nots were the majority of the country and the only way to live comfortably was to join the party. Then maybe you could send your kids to an ok school and get your ration of fruit once a month (if you were lucky and could steal it).

It's interesting that you use decidedly historical Marxist language, i.e., "own all the property," "means of production" etc., and make reference to the "static" state of affairs between the "haves" and "have-nots" (again, dumb-downed Marxist rhetoric for the bourgeoisie and proletariat classes respectively) and even touch on the workings of dialectical materialism in referring to the economic system as "wage slavery", but accuse the above reviewer of regurgitating "textbook FoxNews" babel. A socialists may or may not be mindless, but as a coherent political philosophy (coherent to its devotees, of course) socialism needs no antagonistic talking heads to "reveal" its "true" nature, for the entire world is privy to that knowledge.

M. Hines says:
Sorry, but reading this book DOES NOT give "insight into what is ahead for this country".

This is a book about Community Organizing technique, not political philosophy.

so what do you think now that studies show the "american dream" is more alive in france than it is in the u.s.? well it was only released a month ago, so i know it will take some time for it to sink into the fox news skulls.

Unfortunately, you are one of the people taking advantage of our freedom and condemning the rest of us to political chaos and slavery. As a senior citizen... this book is frightening to me. The only subsidy I get is SS because I worked all my adult life paying into it and paying taxes on everything so the socialists can be generous to the so called have nots who are there because of socialism. Like every other socialist country... we will run out of the rich people with the exception of George Soros, Insurance companies who dealt with this administration's devils, and all the other deceptive and very rich Congress... with their own exclusions and subsidies aside... etc... and we voted in these destroyers... I certainly am worse off today with no where to go and no one to pay my way thanks to the decline of the greatest country ever. You are the problem not the solution.

nanlie says:
Sorry, but reading this book does give insight into what is ahead for this country because it has already started. Do you really listen to all the nasty comments made by liberals?... And how many real comments or (Planted) radical signs or destruction have you actually seen or heard from the Tea Party... maybe TWO?... This is indeed a socialist playbook and instructions on how to destroy the country... starting with Obama Care... Yes we are in the middle of a revolution already...
