This review is from: 1 Peter (Baker Exegetical Commentary on the New Testament) (Hardcover)
These are the commentaries I've used teaching through the book of 1 Peter. This is how I would rank them and why:
1) Karen Jobes (BECNT) - Adequately addresses almost every technical issue, while not losing its pastoral focus.
2) Peter H. Davids (NICNT) - Also adequately addresses technical issues, without losing pastoral focus, but is becoming somewhat dated.
3) JR Michaels (WBC) - VERY technical. I use this commentary, but more as a reference work for papers and particular problem passages.
Once Zondervan (ZECNT) and Pillar come out with their commentaries on 1 Peter I imagine that my number 2 and 3 will be switched to them.
