Brilliant photography; Inventively presented,
This review is from: Menagerie (Hardcover)
I've loved Sharon Montrose's work for a long time; have a number of her books and prints. I would have been satisfied if "Menagerie" were just a catalog of this unique series of the photographer's images. It's not that at all, though. This book surprised me with its witty displays and subtly beautiful combinations of textures, colors and shapes. The timing and progression from the book's beginning to end, as well as the complete variation throughout, make it a joy to turn the pages. It's not predictable or repetitive.
There's nothing traditional or stale about the format of this small treasure. The layout and design of the book enhance the way of seeing that makes her photos so powerful. It's impossible to view "Menagerie" without
A. wanting multiple prints on your wall right away.
B. gaining a much greater appreciation for presentation and display.
