5.0 out of 5 stars It isn't crash-proof, it is an excellent hard drive!, November 29, 2008

This review is from: AcomData PureDrive 1 TB USB 2.0/eSATA Desktop External Hard Drive PHD10000USE-72 (Personal Computers)
I have been using external drives for years and I have had drives fail from all the big names. I am sure this one will fail eventually too. I no longer expect a hard drive to last forever. Having such expectations will only bring you anguish when the drive gives up the ghost and you lose precious data. No matter the brand of hard drive, you *must* back up your data. AcomData drives are quiet, small, fast, simple (no bells and whistles), inexpensive and solidly built. I have had my AcomData 1 TB drive for about 6 months. This drive has more than exceeded my expectations and I will most certainly be buying more.

R. Murphy says:
I have two of these drives and had no problems for 6 months. one drive started to fail - would get hot and continually disconnect itself from the pc. I was still able to access the drive so copyed all my info to another drive (fantom) it took a whole weekend as it kept disconnecting. it cost me $ 8.50 to return to the manufacture. i returned it in its original packaging with everything that it came with. it took a month for a replacement, it was supposed to be a new unit. it came in a madeup turned insideout taped together box. it was just dumped in there in a anti-static bag with a bunch of peanuts. i hardly think this was a new unit and besides it wont connect with my pc. i have 5 other drives connected so its not my pc. i also tried different cables/ports and pc's but still a no go! it powers on ok but thats it. it also gets hot i have the excact drive next to it 90 percent full and it is cool to the touch. the other drive is 9 months old now and is working fine, but 1 out of 3 .... i think ill avoid these drives from now on. good luck if you decide to puchase one or 3
