2.0 out of 5 stars DVD Disappointment, January 20, 2002
This review is from: The Alamo (DVD)
Having the VHS version of this wonderful movie with surround sound and the director's cut I looked forward to the DVD being released. Unfortunately, the distributors have short changed all of us here by releasing the short version of the film with 2 Channel Stereo and no Overture, Intermission or Exit Music. Come on guys, look at what the VHS offers in content. Surely the DVD should be just as good or better!!!!!

Hi.
Paula Bettencourt is Mu name.
I'm a very big fan of collecting classic films on DVD and esspecially BluRay.
And I know from reading the digitalbits.com.
That unfortunately.
Robert A Harris was trying to rais money.
Back in March of 2009/but I have'nt heard any mor about the effort accept that editor Bill Hunt.
Mentioned that the economy is preventing Robert A harris from raising the 1 milloin dolars needed for the restorayion of the film.
So you see.?
If's not that the Studio's don't want to give fans of this movie the uncut version.
They can't right now.
MGM is very suppotive of this effoty.but because of the financial difficulties the Studio is having.
Right now their hands are tied.
Very unfortunet.!!!

I know, I am very disappointed that it is not the full version either. I read on the IMDB page that MGM (I believe), after making The Alamo on VHS and Laserdisc did not store the film correctly, and it deteriorated terribly. I am led to believe that this was the director's cut, the long version everyone loves. Hopefully I am mistaken, and one day the director's cut will be released on Blu-Ray or DVD.

you are correct. from:http://dukewayne.com/showthread.php?t=3755

In the mid 1990s, a private Canadian film collector discovered what was believed to be the last surviving print of the 70mm premiere version in pristine condition. MGM used the print to make a digital video transfer of the roadshow version for VHS and LaserDisc but unfortunately stored it improperly in an archive where it dramatically deteriorated.
