I'll admit it, I've never owned a GPS before this but I finally jumped on the bandwagon and got one when I was planning on traveling a lot this summer. I have been using my Motorola Droid with the Google Maps feature thus far but it eats so much of my phone battery I wanted to get a separate GPS unit so I wouldn't have to worry about that.
The setup was very easy and took me about five minutes. You really just have to follow along with the GPS's questions and it will tell you what to do. I played with it for about a half hour before putting it in the car just to familiarize myself with the functions of it. I found this to be really easy to figure out (once again I'm used to having to figure out how to do this on my phone so this was a cinch.) So far it seemed pretty good but could it handle the open road? Just for fun I thought I would use it for a few days in my car before we went out of town to practice for the big trip. For all of the easy day to day city driving it worked out perfectly, I didn't have any problems getting from point A to point B. The only thing I didn't like was that it seemed a little bit quiet; driving with the windows down would not be an option for me while driving with the GPS on, ditto for the radio. So far the mounting hardware has held on tightly, I'm hoping that this doesn't become an issue in the future. Also when looking up nearby points of interest it told me about a bunch of places that had been closed for more than 5 years so some updating of that kind of information is necessary. It also told me where there was supposed to be a bank and brought me to an old abandoned gas station, which means trusting this GPS for points of interest might not be the best idea.
Overall I'm pretty pleased with the main function of the GPS which is getting me where I need to go. I'm not in love with the volume control and the points of interest features but this GPS unit is passable until something better comes along.
