*May* be better than the "new" lincoln logs but NOT as good as the old,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Classic LOG Cabin Playset in Canister 140 Pcs #20001 by Roy Toy (Toy)
We opted for these because the new lincoln logs were so expensive and really looked stupid. We bought both the log cabin and the fort. We've had them for about a day now and I am very pleased with the number and length of the logs these come with. Both came with more than enough logs to build each set, the price was certainly good and the kids like them (they've grown out of megabloks but aren't really old enough for legos yet). I do have two big concerns though. They seem to be made out of wood that is noticeably softer than the old lincoln logs. They will probably stand up to normal play, but they will probably be looking very scuffed soon.
The bigger problem problem is that unlike the old logs that had a notch every set length, these logs are cut to build whatever is on the box. T-junctions and houses with rooms are impossible because even though most of the cabin logs are long, NONE of them have middle notches on both sides of the log!!! And only those that are suppose to create the door frame and windows have more than 2 notches.
There is also no single lenth between notches. These have 1, 1 1/3 (not even an even half), and 3 1/3, unlike the originals which used a common distance between notches for all. This means a lot of the logs don't match up with each other. Anything more than a simple 4 walls can be a major headache.
I'll give it 2 stars ONLY because they were cheap, but HOW can you screw up the perfectly good old system?!!!
