Know what you're actually getting,
This review is from: ASUS A55A-AB51-RD 15.6-Inch Laptop (Red) (Personal Computers)
The specs are pretty good and i'd say you get what you're paying for. what's not mentioned above is that the sodimm is expandable to 8gb, and the graphics card is a 1gb, and it's got a usb 3.0 and insta-on.
Good comp runs everything smoothly and i've doing a lot of heavy STATA data analysis and massive excel sheets. the battery life is about 2.5 hrs (pretty bad), and the WORST thing about this computer is that the SPEAKERS ARE ON the BOTTOM!!! WTF?! why would you do that? so when i put the laptop on my lap...I can barely hear any sound on full volume!
I didn't realize how wide this computer actually is...it's got that number pad on the side too so just make sure you want that.
and the smart touch thing is retarded...i have had to disable touch click b/c my cursor keeps redirecting while typing.

The model shown on Amazon shows the speakers to be on top of the key board. Did you purchase the same model A55A-AB51RD?

The computer might have it's speakers installed upside down.
Are there any holes under the laptop to suggest it is suppose to have the speaker sound coming from the bottom?

So it has a USB 3.0. But only one? How many total ports are there?
And it says in the specs it has it, but can't confirm in any of the pictures... So I just want to be sure: is there an ethernet port?

I would imagine that data crunching would consume more battery life than some other functions. Regarding the speakers... I turned up the volume on this laptop in a Best Buy store, using two music videos from YouTube. Not only did it sound good, but the volume was very loud. Bouncing the sound out the bottom and reflecting off of the table acts as a bass reflex port. Obviously, quarter-sized speakers can only do so much on bass without some help. Granted, putting a laptop on your lap (no pun intended) with bottom-facing speakers will cancel them out. Do what I do--use good quality gel ear buds for portable, and headphones around the house.

this laptop uses Intel GMA HD which is integrated shared memory, not a 1gb graphics card as you state.
