Finally, a Good Movie About Country Music,
This review is from: Country Strong (DVD)
I seem to be in a minority, but I thought this was a superb movie, a great start to 2011 (countering what Rebecca Murray said about the movie). Was it the greatest movie of all time? Not by a long shot, no. But it accomplished what it set out to do: it told a great story, showcased great performances both dramatically and musically.
While Paltrow may take first-billing, and while her musical numbers are phenomenal, to me it is Beau and Chiles (Hedlund and Meester) who this movie is really about.

My friends and I went to see this movie, being country music fans. We loved the movie and especially the muusic. We all agreed that Hedlund needs to stay with country music and we need more from him. Also, we were all disappointed by the CD, we thought the cd should have actually come from the movie. We like Faith Hill but -- they should have let Hedlund and chiles version "give in to me" be on the CD - not the song for Faith Hill. Actually the whole CD was disappointing. PS We saw the movie twice.

I agree that this story while featuring Paltrow and McGraw's characters the true story is with Beau and Chiles. I found myself particularly liking their scenes and songs better. I liked the movie as well despite what the critics said.

You got it right. Very nice movie. Tim McGraw did great too but you won't notice this until you see it another time. One of the best scenes is when McGraw gets the awful news and Hedlund is looking in through the glass. McGraw collapses into a pile of sobbing. Hedlund's "Timing is Everything" kicks in perfectly synchronized to the tragic moment.
you know i've had close calls
when it could have been me
i was young when i learned just
how fragile life could be
i lost friends of mine
i guess it wasn't my time
time is everything
What I got from this movie is -- don't rush fragile people
Gwyneth did great too but the two young ones stole the movie

There is another CD out with Hedlund and Chiles singing "give in to me." I had to search for it, because it was his voice I wanted to hear.
