This is NOT the SPECIAL EDITION!!!!!!!!!!,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Terminator (DVD)
I just received this DVD today and I went to view the special features and I found out the hard way that this DVD was not the Special Edition as Amazon.com said it was! I bought the Special Edition several years ago and it's all scratched up now so I wanted to buy a new replacement one. I am very disappointed with Amazon.com about this issue!!!!!
The version I got from Amazon has:
1) The feature movie
3) DVD rom features
Now the Actual Special Edition Version has:
1) The Feature Movie
3) T.V. Spots
4) Documentaries: "THE TERMINATOR: A RETROSPECTIVE" & "OTHER VOICES"
5) TERMINATED Scenes with commentary
6) Still Galleries
7) Original Treatment
8) DVD ROM Features
So I want to let everyone know that this version is NOT the Special Edition version!!!!! It is just a single release version that you get from Wal-Mart or anywhere for $7.50 or less than what Amazon or the manufacturers are charging!!!!! So don't waste your money!! Just go to Wal-Mart! I hope that I have helped at least one person to make an informed decesion by writing this review. 5 stars for it being The Terminator. 1 star for false advertisement!

seriously, amazon, would it kill you guys to segregate titles and associated reviews, so people can figure out what they're buying? why do you mix the brand new bluray with a release from 2001? keeping your shadier marketplace sellers in line wouldn't hurt here, either--although many of the sellers are likely as confused as the rest of us!

Really frustrating as I bought my copy from Amazon. Its just the 2003/2006 release with a 2009 Lenticular card pasted on the front. I've seen images of a lenticular version with an actual case like that, is there such a thing? If so, that would be the special edition, right?

The Special Edition that I have is no longer being produced on DVD. Only the standard versions are being produced with the lenticular card on DVD.

I know what you mean stephen as I ordered the supposed special edition multiple times on amazon and instead got the standard one disc edition. Believe it or not the standard edition that you and I received is actually side A of the correct dual-sided disc special edition, the side A of the dual-disc was repackaged and released as the standard edition to cash in on the terminator franchise when the third and fourth films were out in theaters. Eventually I just about gave up on ordering the special edition movie from amazon and instead ordered it on ebay in which I successfully obtained the correct special edition of the movie. I will tell you what, I will make an iso of the second disc(the first disc is not necessary as it is the same disc that you have, I know this because I have both the standard and special editions.) for you in which I will provide a download link for you to download, you can then burn it on a blank dvd-r using dvd copying software and pop it in your dvd player to enjoy. I tried getting contact info from you on your profile but I was unable to retrieve anything to send you a pm about what I just previously said. Contact me or reply to this thread if you want a download link to an iso of the second disc of the special edition.

I recently purchased the MGM release of The Terminator (the one that Amazon advertises as having the special features) and I too got hosed. Amazon isn't to blame however. Though the disc I received is a single-sided disc, the case it came in claims it is a duel-sided disc. As far as I'm concerned, MGM has falsely advertised this product and owes me a replacement.

The special edition is out of print, so the bare-bones release is now the only version of the film we have on DVD with the original audio mix too.
I couldn't even find the SE on ebay anymore, but then I remembered that the region 3 SE also has the original audio mix, so I ended up getting that.
