This review is from: A Thousand Lives: The Untold Story of Hope, Deception, and Survival at Jonestown (Hardcover)
I can remember the Jim Jones massacre and how bizarre it seemed at the time. Why would a bunch of Americans go down to the jungle? Why Guyana? And why, of course, would they willingly kill themselves? Why didn't they just leave? This book basically explains what happened through the eyes of five of the people who were there. And, of course, when you get a look inside a phenomenon like this, you see just how human it is. How people would have been lured into the Peoples Temple and followed it one step at a time until they were so deep inside it was hard to get out. This book explains the inexplicable, in a compelling, captivating story.
