Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Timex Men's T5H971 Ironman Traditional 30-Lap Stainless Steel Bracelet Watch (Watch)
I originally purchased a version of this watch about 6 years ago. I had the same band problems that some people reported - it kept coming undone at the pin. A jeweler replaced the Timex pin with one that was more rigid and I never had the problem again. However, after 6 years, the black plastic around the watch face peeled off. It was likely weakened by sun exposure and by me getting bug spray with Deet on it a few weeks after I first got it which had damaged the silver painted plastic bits and the watch face.
I recently re-purchased the latest version of this watch as I loved the original one so much. It has a slightly different design where the band attaches to the watch face. This seems to have resolved the problem of stress on the pin which made the band come off at that point. The watch has a slightly higher profile than I would like (>1cm). Also, unlike the original version, the Indiglo lights up the numbers rather than the whole face - this is actually quite a cool effect, but it makes the watch less useful as a light. The stainless steel band makes it quite stylish for an Ironman-type Timex while having all the useful chrono features. It can also display up to three different times, which is useful when travelling internationally or knowing the time where my family lives. Overall, it is a great watch with all the features I need and I would definitely recommend it.

Me too, every time I buy a Timex Watch, I loose it because the band broke and I lost the watch somewhere. So I do not buy Timex anymore.
I wish Timex would make good stainless steel watch bands that would last more than 6-12 months. I wish they would make a decent Iron-man watch all out of stainless steel.

I posted that review in June 2012 and have been wearing the watch daily since then and had absolutely no problems with the band. They've changed the design of the band and it connects much better to the watch face without the stress points that the old version had which caused the pins to bend and fall out - the band is somewhat inset into the watch face and 'hugged' firmly on both sides. I've been really happy with this watch and would recommend it!
