A couple questions???

1)How's the scroll wheel? I know on the mx518, it kind of makes little clicking noises. I like it. I heard the G400 scroll wheel is different. Is it, how is it different and do you like it?

2)I know with the mx518 you COULDN'T have different profiles of keystrokes mapped to the mouse buttons for multiple games. You could only have ONE profile in Setpoint. If you switched games you had to go in to the Setpoint settings and reset the keystrokes each time. Have they improved this?

3) The silver metallic of the mx518 never was really hot or sticky or made my hand sweat. I know they used a new material on the G400. How does it feel?

1. new scrolling wheel feels softer ( no clicking noise ) kind of like the old mx510, doesn't feel bad at all.
2. this mouse uses logitech gaming software ( not setpoint ) lets you have different profiles of keystrokes mapped for multiple games, it has improved a lot.
3. do you remember the old logitech G5 ( the first g5 with one thumb button on the left side) feels the same as that one, not made of rough material, not sticky.
the rest feels exactly as the original mx518. i really like it feels perfect for my hand.
if you are having doubts go to bestbuy and try it out first.
btw: there is one problem, mouse operates perfect without the software installed, software installed jitter issues when you want to draw straight lines ( not a problem when you are gaming ) do not install software if you run 3d-photoshop type of programs, but i'm sure logitech will fix this soon ( next update ) hope so.
man... i switched from a G500 to this one due to g500's laser placement position, hated it! G400 optical feels better and if you play old games like quake 3 - counterstrike source or newer games like bad company 2 then you are going to like it.
guys... for all of you reading this... check out logitech's web forum for more! or go to youtube type in logitech g400. get well informed before you buy =)

Thanks for your quick response and good detailed info. Yeah, I'm going to go to Best Buy and see how it feels in my hand. I'm still using my old mx 518. Since I bought it a couple of year ago I have never been able to find another mouse that so perfectly fit my hand and yet provided some extra buttons for gaming. But I really wanted one that I could program for all the games independently. I did read about the jitter issue so per your suggestion I will wait before installing that software. Sounds like the G400 will be a real winner!
Again, thanks so much.

you welcome :]
one more thing, after connecting mouse default settings are ( without software installed ) 400,800,1800,3600dpi and 1000hz rate.
i set mine to 500hz running logitech's soft. =]

@Ellen Ripley

1) the scroll wheel on my g400 still makes clicking sounds just like the mx518. it feels exactly the same as the first generation mx518.

2) dont know.

3) the silver metallic surface of the mx518 is easier to clean. the new etched plastic of the g400 feels like fine sand paper. it is harder to remove dirt.
