iSmooth A+ product and installation,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: iSmooth Apple iPad 4 with Retina Display Ultra Clear Premium HD Screen Protector 2 Pack (fits Apple iPad 2, iPad 3 and iPad 4) (Personal Computers)When my siblings and I got together to buy my 90 year old mom an iPad Retina (4), it was my job to outfit it with proper protection, cases, bluetooth keyboard and a simple multi-position stand. I studied the product out on the market and it took a while to get my purchase order set. There's tons of stuff out there.
My first choice of screen protector was a big mistake! It was a type that required you to wet the screen with their special spray bottle and then squeegee the goopy mess out to the edges. I'm a professional installer and inventor, there aren't too many things I haven't seen or done with my hands, tools and materials. What a disaster!
Needless to say, a big tip when choosing a brand and type of screen protector is to investigate how the product is designed to install. I say stay away from the ones that need to go on wet.
So back to the product research I went which included reading lots of reviews on Amazon. It was here I discovered one of the top rated brands in the iPad screen protector product line was iSmooth. I paid careful attention to what was said about the Ultra Clear Screen Protector product in terms of material, guarantee, installation instructions and reviews.
I ordered a 2 pack and about a week later when I finally had time I set about to install it. I followed all the directions except I goofed up the most important one: Peeling back layer #1 just a few inches and reveal more as you progress with the installation. I got distracted and was watching and listening to a TED video while doing the work. I peeled the #1 cover all the way off and then I was screwed!
Don't make the same mistake I did! Turn off all distractions, read and follow the instructions and you'll have a good result. My first attempt went bad because if you completely peel back the first cover there's no way to control the precise angle of the very clingy sheet, and you have to be nearly perfect, and then you'll get dust from out of nowhere under the sheet and it'll be toast. Feeling like I was never going to be able to protect this iPad, I redoubled my efforts to do a proper job. The key was following step 1 of their instructions correctly.
The result is a perfectly aligned and beautifully clear cover that will help protect the iPad Retina's amazing screen from my moms sometimes harsh treatment and overuse of finger nails on the touch surface. The iSmooth looks great all around from the edges inwards. It just looks right and best of all it is mostly invisible. My mom won't even know it's there, but all us kids will and we'll be happy knowing our iPad gift investment will be protected.
I'll update this review after some months to let others know of this products long term results.
Sept, 2013 update:
It's been about 7 months and the iSmooth is still looking and performing perfectly. I see my Mom at least once a month and of course always check and maintain her tech items. So I'm glad that this screen protector is doing it's job nicely. It wipes clean easily and looks as good as it did when new and that makes it a great investment in my book.
