5.0 out of 5 stars A Non-Disney Classic, January 31, 2005
This review is from: All Dogs Go to Heaven (DVD)
This is one of those movies that proves that Disney is not alone in creating animated masterpieces. Sure I grew up with staples such as Bambi, Beauty and tbe Beast, and The Lion King, but I also recollect being hooked on All Dogs Go to Heaven, An American Tail, and The Land Before Time. Don Bluth's films are tragically overlooked. All Dogs Go To Heaven is a movie I still watch and enjoy now that I'm sixteen. It's a story about life and death. And Charlie is a great character because he's like an anti-rolemodel, but by the end, he's learned a lesson and become heaven-worthy. It's a story of redemption and full of heart. Highly recommended for all children. (Some parts may be a little scary for really small children, but parental presence is all that's necessary.)

This is a great movie with wonderful plot a moral line. A word of warning even though this got a G rating its has some pretty dark scar scenes and images of its time. The sacrifical offering to the alligator even though he was one of smaller animated alligators and charlie is not eaten along with the scene in the market place with the automatic ray gun and the dream sequences scared the daylights out of me when I saw this the first time when I was inbetween the age of 7 and 13 so did the sequeal as well which was about half as itense as the first one. This movie is wonderful but adult supervision I recommend for children watching it or it's first sequel under the age of 10 or 13 depending on there maturity. This movie might have originally been darker but Don Bluth maye have cut some bits out to get it a G rating. I know he had cut movie before particulary the original land Before time which was the only one of 13 movies in that series that he acutally directed. In fact I read on wikipedia that due to some complaints from the studio about the movie being to intense or for someother reason he was forced to reduce some of the dinosaurs screams from little foot and Sharpteeth and had to have some of theme removed he might have done the same thing with all dogs go to heaven but not as well to get it a G-rattinge. Even PG-13 rating was out when this came out but it got a G rating probably because of the miscvoving trailer which had all the scary and dark parts trimed out of it. Outer than more dark and violent content than should be consider resonable for and eigties children's movie this has good music has a sad but happy moral ending despite. Something really fun happens with carface at the end of the movie if you wstch it that long. I say this movie would have gotten PG or PG 13 rating had Mr. Bluth and his associates been so fushes about his other childrens films. For kids under ten year is a cartoon show for this that is alot more milder than the first two movies it aires some times on jetex most of the epsiodes on you tube are also avilable on DVDs the only ones that have not been released on DVD yet I belive are Travels with Charlie and the Perfect dog. If you were wondering the boy that adopted Charlie is in the TV show but he is a secondary character and does not appear in all the episode but he is in at least one episode called magical mystery tour when charlie finds a magic crate that creates 3 alternate versions of him when he steps inside it. However you don't see care face and Belladona alot until after the Lave Vita Dog episode but you see Sasha alot. They also created a new charactera femald dog companion for itcy named Bess for Itchy. I got to go it's gettting late I have a horror movie to watch thanks for reading this if you do. I hope you take my advice a knowledge about this and other series into advisement.
