5.0 out of 5 stars An Intense Philosophical Thriller, March 18, 2008
Length:: 2:00 Mins

Antarktos Rising is a thrilling ride into a brave new world. The book starts out with the global catastrophe of massive floods and deadly temperature shifts. After the devastating crustal displacement has stabilized, much of the world is left uninhabitable. So, countries from all over the world race to claim the newly-transformed tropic of Antarctica. This situation allows for the interesting interactions of the elite from different countries. This is a topic that can be a hotbed for political arguments and racial discussions. However, regardless of one's personal politics, the strengths of each country's philosophy are pointed out over the course of the race.

There is a prehistoric element in the mix along with some mythology, which is taken from numerous cultures. And, all of this is on top of an unprecedented race between the world's most dangerous military units, each set on arriving first and attacking the other teams along the way.

Mira and Merrill provide two very interesting characters, and their relationship does throw the reader a pleasantly unexpected curve ball.

In short, I'd say Antarktos Rising is an intense philosophical thriller that I'd recommend to fans of Michael Crichton, James Rollins, and Steve Alten.
