This Is Not The Halo I Was Looking For,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Halo 4 - Xbox 360 (Standard Game) (Video Game)
The graphics are beautiful, the soundtrack is beautiful, the game controls are simple but that is where the goodness ends. The story line is weak, I mean really weak. The voice acting is shallow and the script makes Master Chief feel defeated and passive. The space combat feels like it is on rails and reminds me of X-WING or some other space shooter from 10 years ago as you can go up and down as the screen moves you where you need to be. The story (or whatever there is of one) creates no real urgency nor does it create any feelings for the characters. They spent all their time making a beautiful game but spent no time working on a valid story that moves the game in a direction anyone really cares about. Most of your time in the game is spent trying to scavenge for weapons as they're annoyingly running out of ammo after each encounter - if you like a certain gun don't expect to use it more than a few times before needing to scavenge for something else. Despite the great graphics the game feels old, there is nothing innovative or new about the perspective, it pushes no boundaries and feels rushed right from the start. The cut scenes are all been there done that and even they are confusing and often boring to watch. When my brother came to play we ended up having fun laughing at the terrible lines. If he had not joined in I don't think I would have even kept playing the game.
I didn't play multi-player online so perhaps that is where this game shows some promise. Bottom line is the game wasn't for me.

My brother and I played as well, and continuously laughed at cortana's lines (and we were satisfied at the ending). But other than that, I thought the game was really good. I enjoyed the campaign and the multiplayer was really good. We are playing spartan ops now and are having a really fun time beating it on legendary.

Maybe you should play the other halos first and you will understand. This game is fantastic. The only reason it might seem bad is because it's only DIFFERENT because it's made by 343i, not bungie.

I thought you wrote a good review, been with the Halo franchise since Bungie was showing it on Mac's (before the 360) and I agree, beautiful engine. The dialogue was weak, I remember early on after seeing the convenent when the Master Chief says "These Covenent seem more fanatical than usual.." or something to that effect - and I'm thinking other than they are trying to kill you, just like before, how are they more fanatical? It's just very weak off angle dialogue inserted to try and solve the problem of the Covenent trying to kill the Chief after they were our allies in the prior game (which they could have solved if they had just used non Elite based covenent since the Covenent broke into two groups with the Elite groups being the UNSC's alllies). I remember another part where you can grab Banshee and I'm thinking oh yeah, I'm going to waylay this whole section of Covenent, but the whole section was artificially restricted in altitude, so you couldn't get up high to come down on them...the banshee just would stick at the altitude (totally frustrating)...just as examples of things that weren't up to snuff with the previous games.
I'd put this Halo as better than ODST and original Halo (nowadays) but not as good as Halo 2, 3 and Halo Reach. JMHO...
