1.0 out of 5 stars HP 8600 All in one excepting printing on photo paper, January 29, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-On Wireless Color Printer with Scanner, Copier & Fax (Office Product)
Overall, if you're not going to print photos, it's a good printer. Nice for scanning, and no problems so far with general over the network printing. But it will not feed heavier paper like photo paper. There are numerous complaints about this, from many with brand new printers, on the HP forums. I would recommend some other printer if you intend to print photos.

Thanks for your review.

I went to Staples to look for a replacement for our HP 6210 that suddenly felt apart and was very enthusiastic when I brought the HP 8600 home: easy to set up as a wireless printer, easy to install cartridges, fairly fast and quiet when printing regular documents, etc.

By then my wife attempted to print pictures on HP Advanced photo papers... Sadly it was a no go. Card stock was a no go too: the printer just cannot manage to grab the paper.

I ended up returning it and picking a HP C410A on clearance. It is not perfect either but it meets our requirements: all-in-one with real fax and ability to print pictures on HP Advanced photo paper or card stock...

So in short I completely agree with your review and wish I had read it earlier: this is not a good choice if you intend to print pictures.

I have an OfficeJet 6500 and was having lots of problems trying to print CD labels. The labels would get stuck, peel off, & jam the printer. When I queried the company that made the label stock, they recommended that I select a thicker type of paper on the print screen. I don't know if this would work for you, but it solved my problem. (And I sure felt stupid for not thinking of this.)

This review is right on the money! I bought this printer 2 months ago at Staples because I needed a printer for my home business. I design and print invitations. I would print the invitations at Staples and cut them to save on ink on my home printer. I was browsing the printer section in Staples one day and saw the HP 8600 Pro. It was perfect for my needs according to the features highlighted on the display and box. Long ink cartridge life, edge-to-edge photo printing, a second paper tray . . . yada, yada, yada. The very first time I tried to print 5x7 invitations - I learned the truth about it's capabilities - it DOES NOT PRINT PHOTO SIZED SHEETS - it's supposed to but the feeder will not pick up the sheets! It just kept saying "out of paper" but it wasn't! I even called HP and they sent me a refurbished one to replace my 'faulty' one. Mind you - my printer was BRAND NEW! The refurbished one does the exact same thing so I've invested over $200 for a printer for my home business to still end up printing my jobs at Staples! I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER HP PRINTER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
