This review is from: Denon AVR5308CI Home Theater Receiver NEWEST VERSION (Discontinued by Manufacturer) (Electronics)
I have a Denon 4306 that sounds good to me. In my opinion the 5308CI is in another league. The sound is cleaner at both higher and lower volumes. It has all the connectivity that I need. 6 Hdmi's in and 2 out. Has the legacy connections too. It produces a great picture via the onboard video processor. The GUI was a step forward compared to the 4306. I don't think I will need a receiver for quite some time. This is a receiver I'm glad I got a chance to experience. I love Amazon and (Prime).Denon AVR5308CI Home Theater Receiver NEWEST VERSION

Denon has really fallen behind Onkyo in terms of price and performance.
There are literally Onkyo A/V Receivers that cost one-fifth as much as this Denon units, and yet the Onkyo A/V Receivers offer newer and better HDMI inputs and more of them! It's like that in every area!
For goodness sake, the new Onkyo A/V Receivers even upgrade to 4K resolution -- the standard of 3840x2160p! This is not something Denon can do with an $1,100 firmware update!
Face it Denon, you have seen a huge decline in sales because you have seen a huge decline in the ratio of price/performance. Lower your price and I will consider buying your products.

Here you go. Comparing Onkyo to Denon. Please! I've owned several Onkyo AVR's and I can tell you first hand that they don't compare. The Denon unit was designed by their best techs and engineers. The build quality is true high end. They use some of the best components available and to top that keep this unit future proof by offering a stellar upgrade. Denon only releases flagship AVR's every so often. Onkyo has it's place in the market but, to compare it to this Denon flagship shows your naivete.
4k is brand new and there isn't even any material available in the 4k format. When this AVR was designed 4k was years out. I'm sure Denon will be including all the latest bells and whistles with their next flagship AVR. I will be standing in line to buy one. Denon has proved their loyalty to their flagship customers by keeping this AVR relevant with state of the art upgrade paths. Denon has given 5308 owners two previous firmware upgrades which included dynamic volume and Denonlink the 4th at no charge. This latest upgrade requires sending the unit in for hardware changes. The Audyssey Multi XT32 upgrade is 32 times the resolution of Multi XT.
Thanks Denon for taking care of your flagship customers, we really appreciate it.
