Tastes like poison, but I think it works,

This review is from: Sambucol Original Liquid Black Elderberry 7.8 fl.oz (Health and Beauty)So, this product tastes terrible. I'm not terrifically sensitive to taste, but it's bad. It kind of has a fermented or rotten berry taste to it. Luckily there is no aftertaste. A quick shot of water seems to eliminate the taste. I read other reviews that said it tasted bad, so I thought perhaps it tasted like cough syrup. It doesn't taste medicinal, it just tastes like berry slurry gone very bad.
Having said all of this, I recently caught a case of the sniffles...specifically a sore throat. Everyone else I know who had the sore throat eventually got a stuffy head, and in some cases a chest cold. I followed the directions on the bottle for "enhanced immune support" and took 1 tsp 4 times per day. My sore throat lingered for a few days, then went away.
I suspect this product may have warded off a more serious cold. I did some research online and found numerous studies investigating potential antiviral properties associated with elderberry (the ingredient in this product). So, I'm sold. I ordered another bottle and am going to keep it around for use at the first sign of a cold. The jury is still out on whether this product actually works, but I'm definitely going to give it another try.

Honestlly, be glad you had the poison-tasting syrup instead of the tasteless, useless "Cold & Flu Relief" homeopathic tablets. I started taking those at the onset of a cold 3 days ago (started with a sore throat). It is now going into my lungs and I may end up on antibiotics because I have asthma. This is my first upper respiratory infection in over 3-1/2 years because I'm very careful about who I'm around and stay away from sick people. I don't know how I got this, and it's still summer and warm! Anyway, never waste your money on the homeopathic version because you'll just be throwing your money away.

A. Ramos says:
I suspect that the taste is a very subjective matter, or maybe the taste can vary from one batch to the next. My personal experience was that it had a taste very close to natural elderberries, but sweetened with honey, which I found pleasant, But each person's taste buds are chemically different, some people clearly have different sensations. Either way I am glad you found the product works for you, it seems to work for me as well

I now keep the Sambucol tablets on hand and start taking at the onset of symptoms. I recovered from the Sept. cold without incident, but ended up contracting pneumonia the first week of Dec., got over that and got sick just 1 month after recovering from that. I was primarily using the Sambucus tablets by Nature's Way and believe Sambucol is far superior. The Sambucol tablets are very mild compared to the bitter tartness of the Sambucus. I have been lucky and haven't been sick since Feb. I catch the bugs from my baby granddaughter, so as soon as she starts coughing or her nose starts running, I grab the Sambucol.
