This is a "must have" especially for the price,
This review is from: Anker Multi-Angle Portable Stand for Tablets 7-10 inch, Pad E-readers and Smartphones, Durable Aluminum Body, Compatible with Apple iPhone 6 Plus 5S 5C 5 4S 4, iPad Mini Retina 2 3, iPad Air / iPad Air 2; Samsung Galaxy S6 S5 mini S4 S3; Note 6 5 4 3 8 10 Edge; Tab 2 3 4 Pro; Google Nexus 6 9 7 5 4; HTC One M7 M8 M9; LG G4 G3 G2; Lumia 435 940; Oneplus one (Silver) (Electronics)
There are a lot of custom specialty stands being sold for smartphones, tablets, eReaders and similar devices. Most are very model-specific and almost all have a fixed, or at best limited, range of angle. Some can only be used in portrait mode, some in landscape mode and invariably the majority are made from lightweight plastic, which is particularly troublesome when you have a touchscreen device and the whole stand wiggles every time you touch it.
Along comes Anker, a company that seems to be on a mission to be just a little different, just a little better and definitely ahead of the curve when it comes to innovation.
As soon as I unpacked this product I felt it reeked of quality. Aluminum! Who uses aluminum for a device stand? Evidently Anker thought that would be a better idea and oh boy were they right. The stand virtually plants itself on your desktop, or car console, or nightstand or, well you get the idea. It has positions to give you every conceivable angle.
The stand is not product specific, it seems to be able to fit any smartphone/tablet/eReader. BUT, and this is important, it was not at all obvious to me at first that there are two very different ways you can use the stand. The first is obvious, with the plastic leg as the rear support. Using it that way will accommodate thinner devices but not those with TPU-type cases. The second way, which is not at all obvious at first is to rotate the plastic leg all the way around and use it as a rear prop for the device. That way no matter how thick your device it will hold it securely at the angle you choose. Brilliant!
There are several hardish but gentle protection tabs to prevent scratches and make sure your device doesn't slide around. What do I mean by "hardish but gentle"? Well they are not soft spongy pads, nor are they hard plastic. They are, um, just right.
The aluminum, while lightweight for traveling has more heft to it than plastic and again "just right" seems to be a good description of how solidly your device seems Ankered (sorry, bad pun) to your work surface. Note that it is not 100% aluminum, however the grade of plastic used for the rest of the stand is very substantial.
I spend a lot of time writing at my desktop computer. Used to be I would take a laptop with me whenever I traveled but frankly, they are still too heavy to tote along. My entire "laptop" computer these days is an iPad, this Anker stand and Anker's Bluetooth Apple keyboard. Total weight? under 3.5 pounds!
Note: I was supplied a sample for test and evaluation. As is true with all of my reviews they are based on my own testing and are not influenced by any external source and are always fair and honest.
Based on how well it's made I may have paid about $30 for it. So I was actually shocked to see Anker's price on Amazon at less than $10. I would pay that without a second thought.
