3.0 out of 5 stars inaccurate ring sizer, October 4, 2010
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: SE - Ring Sizer - Metal, 36 Pc (Kitchen)
I ordered this for my jewelry smithing needs. The price and quality seemed good from the picture and description so I gave it a shot. However when I received it and tested the sizes against a accurate ring mandrel, many of the sizes we noticeably off by around a quarter to a half size off. Each number size has three variations, a plan number, a -, and a =. But even with all three, I couldn't find an accurate size for some sizes. Also I believe the size variations on these are nontraditional, typically the "-" represents a half size, so like 7- would be 7 and a half.

I ended up returning this and was very pleased with the ease and quickness of the return.

So, if you don't mind having the sizes being off by a half size or so, it'd be ok getting this. However, I'd definitely wouldn't call these professional. I bought a different one after my return from a jewelry resource store and they were perfectly accurate.

I dont like the one I received either. I want to order an expensive ring online, whose sizes come in 1/4 sizes. So I dont know how I can coordinate with this Ring Sizer which gives the sizes in 1/3 sizes. Also, some of the rings are missing, and there are only 2, rather than 3, for a size. Also, the printing on some of the rings is incorrect or unreadable. Can you please tell me what you mean by a 'jewelry resource store'?

Could you provide the other resource you mentioned that you said was better?

A good resource I've found was Rio Grande. This the one I bought, and was very nice: http://www.riogrande.com/Product/Wide-Shank-Finger-Gauge-Set/116027?pos=8. They have a few other as well if you search "ring sizer". I've noticed they may not always be the cheapest, but they have very good customer service. Hope this helps, and sorry for not replying sooner.
