Really Really OK,
This review is from: Say Anything (DVD)
There's a lot about this movie that I really like but as a whole I didn't feel too strongly about it. "Almost Famous" is one of my all-time favorite movies, so I was excited to see this. However, I felt that Lloyd Dobler just seemed too perfect, Diane Court too much of a stereotype. I wasn't surprised by anything the characters did. I loved the performance of John Mahoney as Diane's dad. There are many touching scenes and awesome one-liners, but for me they didn't really connect together to make a masterpiece. I found myself constantly wondering when it would be over, and surprised that it had only been about an hour and a half long. A very good depiction of the 80's though. If you are an 80's movie fan, it is probably a must see just on principle, but if not, then there is a chance you won't like it.

I liked your review. However, I don't think Lloyd Dobler is "too perfect"... yes, he's very detail-oriented, and warm-hearted, and articulate, and all that, but he's also what came to be known in the 90s as a "slacker": no direction, no plans for the future. Usually that is a very unattractive trait in a man, but somehow Lloyd Dobler makes us believe in the power of his own potential with nothing else to show for it than his own good nature.

"Really really OK" is the perfect description. I felt the same.
